C4C Junior Handler Program
Mission Statement
The Canines for Christ Junior Handler Program actively equips and encourages youth to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through meaningful community outreach and therapy dog ministry.
By engaging with a supportive network of like minded individuals within the organization, young people learn to live out their faith in a tangible, impactful way.
The program bridges foundational spiritual growth with practical service, helping students turn their natural love for animals into a powerful tool for local evangelism and community outreach.

A Place for Everyone!
- Homeschool & Public School Integration: The flexible structure easily adapts to a homeschool curriculum as an applied elective or community service credit, while providing public and private school students with a fulfilling after-school or weekend ministry outlet.
- 5th through 12th Grade Core: The main program targets middle and high school students, fostering leadership skills, personal accountability, and deeper spiritual maturity as they handle therapy dogs in various ministry settings.
- Elementary Training Track: Younger children do not have to wait to get involved; elementary-aged students can enter a specialized training track, learning the foundational handling skills and safety protocols required to graduate into full junior handlers when they reach the 5th grade.

Meet Our Junior Handler Program Director
Valerie Cleave
Valerie and her husband Brandon live in Idaho with their two children. Valerie wants to equip the next generation to love God and serve others. Guided by her deep conviction that children are vital assets to community outreach, she dedicates her time and talent to teaching, youth ministry, and homeschooling her own children.
Her volunteer background seamlessly blends education with hands-on animal care, drawing from extensive experience in classrooms, youth ministries, and dog shelters. Valerie’s true passion lies in mentoring young people—showing them what active ministry looks like in the real world and empowering them to make a tangible, compassionate impact in their local neighborhoods.
When she is not teaching or serving, Valerie loves connecting with creation through outdoor recreation, spending her free time cycling, hiking, and camping.
