Local Chapter Development

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24

“That is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.” Romans 1:12

WHAT’S THE PURPOSE OF LOCAL CHAPTERS?

Local Chapters are meant to provide an opportunity for a community of believers to come alongside one another in therapy dog ministry serving the local community, and supporting one another’s spiritual, worship, learning, discipleship, and fellowship needs.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF JOINING A CHAPTER?

  • Loving – “As I have loved you, so you must love one another” – John 13:34
  • Praying – “Pray for one another” – James 5:17
  • Comforting – “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
  • Fellowshipping – “That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.” – 1 John 1:13
  • Learning – “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17
  • Encouraging – “Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11
  • Exhorting and worshiping – “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” - Colossians 3:16.
  • Sharing burdens – “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2
  • Striving toward faithful consistent service– “Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.” – Philippians 2:2

Frequently Asked Questions

 Three (3) distinct households.

Yes, if they are an active member of the chapter or provide a service to the chapter.

There is no maximum, but when chapters become too large, administration can become too unwieldy, so a dialogue is started about establishing additional chapter(s).

  •  First, you are an active member of the national organization current on your dues
  • Second, you are making at least one visit per quarter (not necessarily chapter-coordinated visits)
  • Third, you are participating in at least one chapter activity per year (training, meeting, etc.)

Yes, please be encouraged to make as many visits as you can sustain. The key is consistency when the visits are scheduled to be recurring. For this reason, we hope that a backup can attend if you or your dog encounters difficulty in meeting the facility or program’s needs.

No, not all chapter-coordinated visits may fit your schedule or your pup’s temperament. If recurring visits, only commit to those visits you can consistently attend. If non-recurring, again, be sure your schedule permits. In either case, don’t try to force a visit that doesn’t mesh with your dog’s interests and comfort.

Step 1: Contact the Local Chapter Program Director to discuss geographic scope and chapter name.

Step 2: Review and execute a Letter of Agreement (provided upon request).

Step 3: Discuss with the Local Chapter Program Director the prospective chapter members, and your hopes for the chapter.

Step 4: Solicit the interest in joining from the prospective members of the chapter.

Step 5: Provide an official roster to the Local Chapter Program Director.

Step 6: The Local Chapter Program Director sends you a Chapter Certificate.

Absolutely. However, recalling why Jesus sent his disciples out in two’s, there is benefit to having others working alongside you. “As I have loved you, so you must love one another” – John 13:34

Yes, please refer to the Chapter Guidelines PDF under the Crisis Response page.
