All sections of the test must be graded either excellent or satisfactory for the dog to pass the test. Any sections scoring as a fail will cause the dog to fail the test.
Yes. We encourage the handler to give verbal cues/commands and praise throughout the test. The ONLY exception is Test Item #6 Initiating Contact and Engagement Test (Please refer to C4C Temperament Test Evaluator Form).
The dog must be on a 4 - 6 foot leash at all times. NO retractable leashes allowed. Acceptable collars include flat collar, martingale collar, gentle leaders, or harness.
Yes. If the dog fails the C4C Temperament Test, they will need to re-take the entire test at a later date. We recommend that you work with a trainer on the failed item prior to re-taking.
Yes, they are allowed to take the test more than once. We do recommend that you work with a trainer on the failed item(s) prior to re-taking the test.
This is normal practice with most therapy dog organizations to make sure the dog has the right temperament (confidence) to handle the potential stress of this type of work.
Yes. The dog needs to pass both of these requirements to be eligible to be certified with Canines for Christ (Effective April 15, 2025).
